For sale: a classic Cape in Five Islands, Maine

Classic Cape on Lewis Road

My husband and I have been spending our summer vacations in Maine for the last eight years. Seven of those we’ve spent in Five Islands, a small village on the island of Georgetown, about 12 miles southeast of Bath. We love this little part of Maine so much that this year we decided to take a serious look at a little cottage for sale down the road from the dock.

After much discussion (and a tremendous amount of obsessing on my part), we decided to take the plunge and bid on the house. As of today, we have the house under contract, contingent on our ability to secure the financing and the outcome of the home inspection (scheduled for next Tuesday).

I hope I’m not jinxing the whole thing by starting this blog. But I have so many ideas for this house that I wanted a place to document the process of buying, renovating, and eventually enjoying our little piece of Five Islands.

So, this is the first of what I hope will be many posts about our experiences as second home buyers, renovators, and dreamers.
